Safe Routes to School
One of Midtown Indianapolis, Inc's, infrastructure objectives is high-quality sidewalks. The Safe Routes to School federal program is fully compatible with this, with the objective to provide infrastructure that encourages children to walk or bike to school. A total of $120,000 in two infrastructure planning grants was awarded to IPS School #84, Immaculate Heart of Mary School, and St. Thomas Aquinas School so that engineers could be engaged to determine what infrastructure and safety changes need to be made. Cindy Zweber-Free of the Midtown board has been working closely with both school groups.
Midtown will continue to work with the Safe Routes to School committees, the MKNA and BTNA infrastructure committees, the Mayor’s Office liaison, City-County councillors, DPW, and others to advocate for infill sidewalks and crosswalks where there are none.
